Date: Thu 16-Feb-2006, 13:36:54 I had a Digital 8 that did the same thing. A Hi8 or Digital 8 tape deck will run about $200 or more...used! I've been scouting Ebay for them. Luckily, a friend let me borrow his Hi8 deck to transfer my 8mm tapes and when I'm ready, I'm going to borrow his Digital 8 camcorder to transfer the rest. You could also buy the cheapest Digital 8 camcorder you can find that is backward compatible (not all are) and play that tapes back that way. FYI - I have since purchased a Panasonic GS250 3 CCD Mini-DV camcorder.
